1.  Any pitcher who throws to first more than three times while attempting to hold a runner on base will be shot.

2.  DEFENSIVE LINE _ Marc Matock's broken ankle will be a big loss since the Trojans are weakest at tackle.

3.  Defensive line coach Doug Smith will coach the offensive line, and offensive line coach Mike Barry will assist Riley.

4.  Defensive line coach Romeo Crennel will interview with the Chargers and Jets, though he already may have received an offer from the Patriots.

5.  DEFENSIVE LINE: Tony Casillas returns from Dallas on Monday to continue rehabilitation after back surgery and will miss at least one more month.

6.  Defensive lineman Kenyon Coleman is the most-impressive freshman and will play.

7.  Defensive lineman Leon Lett will be back next month from his drug suspension.

8.  Defensive players positioned within a yard of the line of scrimmage will no longer be able to flinch to draw an offensive player into an illegal procedure penalty.

9.  Defensive tackle and captain Pete Holland will not play because of a disc injury to his lower back.

10.  Defensive tackle Eric Swann, also recovering from knee surgery, will remain on crutches for at least another month.
